How is it different than a regular light?

To reap the benefits and use light therapy, or phototherapy, the light must be of a specific brightness. The metrics used is lux. The intensity of light emitted for optimal results should be 10,000 lux. The Kala Light Therapy Lamp is about 20x brighter than regular indoor light. 

How is it better than other SAD lamps?

The Kala Light Therapy Lamp is 10,000 lux with other sad lamps ranging from 6,500-8,500 lux. We have the brightest light possible. The shape and design of the device provides a broad radius of light in comparison to the old-school, conventional plastic book-sized light boxes. The Kala Lamp gives off more light, at a more concentrated wavelength allowing for max absorption from different angles and distances. What time of the day should I use my Kala Lamp?

When you use light therapy may impact how effective it is. Morning light therapy seems to work better. Plus, using it later in the day may cause insomnia. Many health professionals recommend 10,000 lux for 15 to 30 minutes every morning. The three different colour temperatures can be used throughout the day. We suggest the brighter temperature for the morning, and as the day goes on, use the darker temperatures. For optimal results, use the Kala Lamp in a dark room!

Do I need a prescription for a sun lamp?

Nope! No prescription is necessary for a sun lamp. You can order our Kala Light Therapy Lamp without any doctor's prescription.

Any doctor who treats depression — a primary care provider, psychiatrist or psychologist — can recommend light therapy, but you don’t need a prescription to buy a SAD lamp.

Kala Therapy always recommends you talk to your doctor about whether light therapy is right for you. If you’re on prescription meds that can increase photosensitivity, you might be more sensitive to light. Please consult with a doctor before use!

Are sun lamps safe?

Lamps are one of the safest, non-invasive devices that can be used to treat seasonal depression. “Sad lamps don’t give off ultraviolet radiation, so they pose little risk to most people,” says Dr. Cain. “Be sure to ask your doctor if any medication you take makes you more sensitive to light". No glasses are needed. We do however suggest that you do not look directly into the light. Simply let it hit your face!

How do I use my Kala Light Therapy Lamp?

For optimal results, aim your Kala Lamp 16-24 inches (41 to 61cm) from your face for 30 minutes – 2 hours within the first two hours of waking up.

It’s common to see improvement in your mood within two-to-four days if used for about 30 minutes every morning. 

To use phototherapy, don’t look directly into the light. Place the lamp about 2 or 3 feet away while you read, eat, work or do other activities.

What is the USB used for?

The USB can be used for charging your personal devices while you are using your Kala Light Therapy Lamp.
